Found a blue 2005 GTO with 8060 miles on it. Went out to the dealership and picked it up today. Haven't taken any of my own pictures yet, because it was dark when I got home. But since pics are required in this kind of thread, here's the one's the dealership took.

Wow, never thought you would sell the Subie. But man, that GTO looks sharp. Right color, and only 8k miles! Oh my.

Almost traded my car in for a 5.7 once. But Chicago snow, the fact that it wasn't what I really wanted (6.0) and the tiny boot turned me off.

I didn't think I would either, but a 6.0L GTO with 8000 miles... I couldn't just pass it up. The 6 speed is taking a lot of getting used to. The shifting is completely different than the Subaru gearbox is. It's a good bit notchier and the gears are all really close together (like in spacing, not ratios). I've put it in 2nd instead of 4th, and 4th instead of 6th a bunch of times now.

But isn't that boot strikingly disappointing in size? I remember I was all over the car. Then I said "lets look at the trunk". Because the car has similar proportions as the 2gs, I thought I would be graced with a luggage compartment with an equal or similar capacity. Maybe is because of the differential.

Yeah, that part does suck. It's basically enough space for a pair of golf bags. It's because of the fuel tank. The GTO is based on the Holden Monaro from Australia. In the process of "Americanizing" the car, the fuel tank had to be moved to make it meet safety standards. The space between the back seat and the trunk was the place selected to hold the new tank.

Hot damn, nice buy man with low miles. Do you mind me asking how much you paid? When it comes to speed and shit, the 6.0 just hauls balls. I was in my buddys 04 350z, and we raced a guy's 6.0 and he pulled by 2+ car lengths. lol He can beat my other friends 5.7 liter, which is funny. Anyway, nice buy and hope you enjoy her.

You can get low mileage GTO's now for at or under 20k at Carmax. I've seen a bunch that I would have traded the Strat in for...but I owe another 3 years. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

The price on the car was $20,900. I saw a few other fairly low mileage (8k-15k) GTO's online going for anywhere from there up to about $22k. There was one other one for $20,999 with 8kish miles, but the dealer looked kind of shady, so I didn't bother with that one. I did have to drive 2 hours to get to the dealer I bought it from though. So I had plenty of "bonding time" on the way back.

Yeah, it will definitely haul. I'm still nervous about it though, so it may take me a month or so to get up the nerve and practice shifting to be willing to open her up good.

Well, at the moment it sounds mean as hell, although way too loud. The previous owner put on a set of straight pipes, so it has no mufflers on it. It sounds awesome, just way too loud, you can barely hear yourself think when you get on it. I wish I could keep the sound, just turn the volume down a few notches. The dealer I got it from is making arrangements to put the factory mufflers back on, which will stay for a bit, then I'm going to put some kind of aftermarket system on it. First thing on the list (after I sell some leftover Subie parts) is going to be a new shifter, the stock one is pretty crappy.

Yeah, another new to me car. I learned my lesson buying the WRX new, no more new new cars. I wasn't really planning on getting a new car, this one was one of those "deal you can't pass up" cars. I was actually watching the old "Vanishing Point" with Kevin (my brother, for those who don't know) and we were talking about how cool it would be to have a car that sounded like the Challenger in there. While we were talking about it I hopped on Autotrader and started looking at various "muscle cars" (mustangs, GTO's, etc) and found this one. Talked to the bank, the insurance company (my monthly premium actually went down $2 a month), and then worked out a deal with the dealer over the phone. Went down on Thursday, worked the details of the deal out, and drove home with it.

Yeah, at least on the blue ones, the red isn't quite as bad. Fortunately mine is the black interior. The only color matched stuff is the stitching on some of the leather, and the gauge faces.

I'm royally pissed that moment though, on my way in to work this morning some piece of crap came flying out from under one the cars in front of me and put a ding the size of a dime right up on the front edge of my hood. My brother is calling some dude that deals with his dealership that apparently works magic on dents and dings, so hopefully I can get it fixed pretty fast.

Heh. My car crapped an exhaust heat shield on some dude's mustang's hood the other day. He didn't seem to notice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

There are some guys that deal with that kind of stuff on the go. You call them and they go to your place and fix it up. It's pretty cool actually.

Yeah, there's like DentWizard and stuff, but all they do is fix the dent. Supposedly the guy my brother knows will touch up the paint and everything. According to him, on the couple cars he's seen him fix you can barely tell he had done anything after he finished. I'm gonna need that, because it's not just a dent, it took some paint off too.

Nice Jag - I gotta admit I always liked the GTO's - they never got much respect. I got my ASS handed to me by one in the Strat a few years ago. I mean I knew I would, but it was fun trying, nonetheless. Now if I only I could find him NOW...... *Viper grin...*

The only thing I still laugh about with the GTO's was a comment in AutoWeek a few years ago. Remember when Oprah gave away a few HUNDRED Pontiac G6's when they were brand new? Totally killed the market value on the car. A "GM Insider" was quoted as having said, "We should have given away GTO's - sure as all hell can't SELL them..."

Sad, but still funny. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Glad you got a good deal. Let's race sometime (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

If he's fairly stock I probably wouldn't get walked, but I certainly wouldn't win. He would have a weight and 50hp advantage. Traction would probably be close, because the GTO has T/C and he has wider tires.

The Viper is supposed to be 8.0L V10 with 450 hp. The GTO is a 6.0L LS2 V8 with 400hp.

I know the Viper has a Tremec 6 speed, but is it the T-56? That's what mine apparently is, a Tremec T-56 6 speed.

Oh, and apparently I'm driving what Motor Trend considers to be a "Future Classic"

I believe Jeff mentioned his has 512hp...

Sweet GTO man!

Yeah, I'd get walked...

Just did some reading though, and apparently they both do run the T-56 trans, along with the Corvette, Aston Martin Vanquish, and a couple other cars. Of course there's like 20 versions of the T-56, so that doesn't really mean too much.

They are all slightly different in ways. The 03 Cobra runs it too, and is different even still.

Jeff's generation Viper is rated ~ 450 HP stock.

03-07 SRT-10 ~ 505 HP stock.

08+ SRT-10 ~ 600 HP stock.

I'd like to run Jeff's car with my truck (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Yeah, I bet that would be an interesting race. Heck, I wouldn't mind running too just to see what happened.

Screw the garbage GM crap, save mopar buy a Dodge!
How come when you buy a GM car and ask for the towing package it goes on the front of the car?
What do you call a GM car with a flat tire? Totaled
Why do they put rear window defrosters on a chevy? To keep your hands warm when you are pushing it.....
I went to the parts store and said "I need windshiled wipers for a Cobalt." The Clerk replied, "Throw in 20 bucks and it's a trade".
What do you call a Chevy truck pulling a boat up a hill? A miracle.
How do you double the value of a GM car? Put A FULL TANK OF GAS IN IT.

Yeah, you should know by now that I'm not much on brand loyalty. I just want whatever is more fun. Heck, I figured you wouldn't care since you used to be a big Camaro fan.

But yeah, I think I'll keep my GTO...

I finally saw a new Challenger on the street, I saw some at the dealer before, almost came in my pants. Acually my 1st dream car was a 340 Duster, but I grew up in a Chevy family.

Yeah, tried selling it but couldn't find anyone interested in buying it.

Of course, I took as many of the goodies I added off of it as I could before I traded it, most of which are already sold.

They offered $14k over the phone without seeing it. They wanted to cut that down after they saw it, but I told them I'd walk if they did... so they didn't.

Me 2! There are 3 floating around my town. 1 of them being parked a block away from me in it's orange glory. Another one is red srt-8, apparently someone hit it I guess? I read a craigslist rant about someone doing it to their new challenger and wants them to fess up. The other one, the first one I saw is a silver.

Put on a Magnaflow catback yesterday, which sounds darn good! Snapped a quick picture of the car today...
