Timing belt tensioner.

looks as if the tensioner is more expensive of the whole setup.

Holy crap, that's expensive.
Can't figure out how to link the RA catalog so go to Rock Auto and follow this chain:
Rock Auto-->Dodge/2003-2004-2005/Stratus/3.0 SOHC/Engine/Timing Belt Tensioner

Dorman $39
Gates $49
+shipping.

I haven't heard good things about Dayco...plus they used a Dayco idler pulley in my R/T, which waited 300 miles, seized up and cost me another $600 and 2 days vacation days I had to burn because it failed 5 hours from home.

Don't skimp on timing, especially the tensioner.

How do you figure? You have the same 4G64 as the Eclipse.

He has the 2.4 not the 3.0. I agree Rockauto is cheaper. I only suggested Advanced in case he was doing it right then and didn't have time to wait on shipping. Order online and pickup at the store.

On another note I have read a few bad reviews on the Dorman...but my Dorman is going strong 3+ years. I hope I didn't just jinx myself (IMG:style_emoticons/default/glare.gif)

I've always just reused the oem hydraulic tensioner. I've seen too many aftermarket tensioners fail prematurely.

Whoops, forgot he had the 4-banger. Either way, Rock Auto has always been cheaper, better selection and better brands. Advance/Autozone are hit and miss with their stuff.
I remember seeing that Dayco isn't the best choice but Gates is the way to go, apart from OE dealer parts. There will be failures from all brands, a matter of figuring out whos consistancy is better.

Having a mechanic/friend that knows what they are doing helps too.
