In an effort to compete against Eur0's recent pics, here's some from my Colorado trip last week (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Sounds like I hit a sensitive spot. Doing a little read up on me eh? I'm pretty sure Flickr is geared towards photography? Why would I load it up with designs and logos? And the silhouette was a little less than a year ago. A lot has changed. And all of that was just messing around with the new brushes. I don't think I said anything negative about your logo. I don't see why you're coming at me like this. But I guess you get an attitude quickly. Doing it in Illustrator would solve that shitty pixel problem. And make it look less like 1995 clipart. But if you're only using it for web... I'm wrong and it should be done in PS.

I'm not wasting anymore time in this thread.

EVERY logo should be done in illustrator (or at least as vector) if it can be, IE if it can be made simple enough to reduce to vector. Unfortunately, not all logo's can, often a more "flashy' design is desired than vector can provide. Being made for the web should NOT cause you to start with a low quality logo, that's piss poor planning, eventually you'll want to enlarge it. If the logo can't be made vector, you should at least make a high rez raster image.

The logo Eur0 made cannot be reduced to a vector.

Eur0 has reduced the colors to those that the eye differentiates the most between, IE compression. You're losing data to save space and bandwidth, there's no need to post a 1mb 500x300px image online for a basic critique.

Are there any other (Read, easier) ways to get potable water from salt water that I am not aware of?

The rock made of seashells and sand on many Florida beaches can be used as a water purifier. I believe that you can freeze it to purify it as well.

Many of the desired tools would change with your location. Trapping fish isn't an option in many places, and hunting big game isn't going to be done with a pocket knife.

Do it in Illustrator it will look a lot better.

Learn what the difference between vector art and bmp are before giving graphic design advise.

Euro, I really like the last one.

Thanks euro....

No scuba diving for me...ice diving causes regulators to freeze up, and several of the skills used in warm-water diving don't directly transfer to ice diving. If I were local I'd take a class or find a mentor to learn from, but until then, I don't want to push my limits, too many dead divers from that.

I'm a tad worried about rental car cost, seeing how we're both 21. We're going to book at least 6 weeks in advance and try the "name your own price", as we've had luck with that in the past getting around the 25yr old age limit.

you think the jeep trip allows you to see more for the money? Seems like a great idea to get a little deeper into the park, which would work well for me with photography.

Any feedback on the alaska train? We've had luck using public transportation in other areas to save on cost, but that just doesn't seem like an option in alaska?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

Hope you had fun. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I always shake my head at the tourists that take the pictures of the Metro trains when they are entering the platform.

We do the same when you guys take pictures of boats coming into the port during cruises, so no hard feelings...I guess it's "neat-er" when you don't get to see it every day (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Joe-

If you still read these boards, what's the best way to get to Alaska, and what sites would you recommend seeing if you have a week there? When we went to dc this weekend, we were offered a $400 travel voucher in exchange for taking a 2 hour later flight because ours was overbooked. Denali seems to be #1 on both of our lists, but i don't have any ideas for much else.

thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thought I'd share a few photos from our Washington DC trip. The gf and I saw southwest had really cheap airfare and decided to do a last minute trip.

Baltimore's "light rail", $3 or something like that for a ride from the airport to harbor-

I just got an 09 caliber for $12k with about 11k miles on it. I'm sure a tad older car would be even cheaper. So far I love it in every way except looks. I'm getting about 26-27mpg in city, and 29mpg on the highway.

any good dive/snorkeling spots by hobe sound/jupiter? sorry for the ot. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/Chair.gif)

Jupiter has tons of good diving. There's several dive ops in the area, www.scubaboard.com is a great place to research dive op reviews and dive sites. I'm more into cave diving than ocean, so I can't name any specifics, it's been about 6 years since I've dove around there.

Plus the rear seats fold down.

Unless he's carrying more than his equipment.

yeah, I usually throw 5 or 6 tanks in the trunk, with all the other (wet) stuff on top. The drysuit is sensitive to getting pinch leaks, so it goes in the back seat in it's case safe from any other gear falling on it, along with my suit case, laptop case, drysuit undergarments (can't get wet), and tool box full of tools to fix any divegear that might break before a dive. The stratus will certainly hold all that, but packing was becoming a huge PITA, and I'm hopefully getting a scooter this year, and was going to need more room for that anyways....and we're still talking ONE diver here, what if I want to carpool? For all but the bigger dives, I can carpool in the caliber.

It's kinda an ugly car, but practical...

It should. To put it in perspective, imagine putting all this gear in a stratus-

After all the talk you used to do about them, I'm rather disappointed that it's not a Terminator Cobra.

You can't fit dive gear in a cobra, but more reasons than that....

Realistically the whole decision came down to this. I'm graduating college next spring, which means within 2-3 years I should hopefully be more financially stable than I am now, meaning if I got laid off, I'd have cash saved up to pay bills. Buying a sports car would lead to higher insurance rates, higher fuel cost, and higher car payments, all at a time where we've got a useless president who's teaming up with congress and about to increase the national debt even more, like Bush on steroids. Knowing that I work for a small business, and Obama is in office with congress full of dems, you just can't ASSUME that you're going to stay employed. Not to mention, when I'm already living on the edge to avoid taking out any student loans, I need to be able to live comfortably, and not sweat every paycheck.

Today at the auction, the repo lane was busier than I've ever seen it. Tons of people are having cars repo'ed that are 07's and newer, most models were 2008, with even a few 2009's and cars with less than $5k miles on them. I'd still love to have a cobra. I still fully plan to buy one when I become more financially stable (altho the GT500 will probly take it's place)...but I'm not going to get so far in debt over a love for a car that I can't afford to go to the beach or go diving every weekend.

I think too many people misunderstand the concept that AFFORDING a car, and being able to make payments, are *not* the same thing. I could make payments on a lot nicer car, but I couldn't truly afford it. The logical idea was to buy a cheap car to hold me until I can afford what I want, so that when the time comes, I'm not in debt (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Well, there she is. Didn't have good luck bidding today, lost all 4 cars I wanted to buy, as they went out of my price range for their given year/mileage. It was frustrating as hell. After the auction we negotiated this car (2009, 11k miles, all options except sunroof/leather) down to $11,700. There were lots of 07's, but all 40-50k miles, and they were running around $8500-$10,000 depending on condition, and all the 08's went for $10,500+. My initial plan was to get a low miles 07, but there just weren't any, and none were even listed for next week, so we went with this.

The reason for selling is we've started to do some fairly advanced dives, and the stratus just didn't have the room, not to mention the stratus has a lot of repairs and such due soon. Also the caliber today seemed to get about 31.6mpg on the highway doing 75mph the whole way after just over 100 miles of driving, so I'll save some in gas, AND my insurance will drop $250ish a year.

same thing happened to mine. I tried to use industrial glue to stop it when it wasn't that bad, but even that didn't help.
